Demons will not return for a second series after Philip Glenister announced that he has decided to quit, says a report in the Sun.
The big-budget vampire show cost millions to make and began with strong viewing figures of over six million. However, over the course of the series, ratings declined and the final episode was seen by an audience of just 3.4 million.
It has been reported that bosses decided to axe the show after Glenister revealed that he would not reprise his role as vampire hunter Rupert Galvin.
The 46-year-old actor, who is best known for his portrayal of DCI Gene Hunt in Ashes to Ashes, was subjected to criticism for his "dodgy" American accent used to portray Galvin.
An insider claimed: "ITV spent millions on Demons -- but things have not worked out. Philip made it clear he would not come back.
"He's busy filming, with a second series of Ashes to Ashes and has other shows in the pipeline.
"It's a shame, but it's a tough time for TV -- there is just not the money to spend on big projects and then continue if they're not immediately a success."
