Katarina Witt has heaped praise on Matthew Wolfenden for his latest Dancing on Ice performance, which saw him receive an almost perfect score from the judges.

The Emmerdale star managed to pull off the difficult wrist ripper lift during Ultimate Skills week, giving him and his dance partner Nina Ulanova their highest ever score of 28 points.

Katarina thought Matthew’s performance was amazing and said: “The steps sequence was just unbelievable because not only were his feet clean but everything else, like how his body was moving and how he went with the rhythm, was really like a figure skater.

“His elements were so well executed and it was almost perfect.”

Ultimate Skills week saw the judges awarding a maximum of two points for each skill shown by the celebrities, which included the steps sequence, jumps and spins they each performed during their routines.

Matthew and Jorgie Porter topped the leaderboard while Heidi Range received one of the lowest scores of the night and ended up in the bottom three with Sebastien Foucan and Chemmy Alcott.

The judges chose to save Chemmy and sent Heidi and Sebastien home.

Katarina explained: “Heidi does great lifts but the second you leave her alone and she has to do the tricks she tries, but with her step sequence she hardly moved.

“Our focus was the skills this week and that’s why I think my marks were pretty low in some of the couples and why I got booed a lot.”
