Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne has slammed the Conservatives over library cuts.
The actor plays bookmaker Peter Barlow in the Weatherfield drama.
Gascoyne claimed that being able to borrow books when he was growing up in a Nottinghamshire pit village allowed him to move into acting.
Without a library the 42-year-old, told the Daily Mirror: "I wouldn't have gone anywhere."
He added: "Why are you taking something else away from people who have virtually nothing?"
The library Chris said he "fell in love with" in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts, is having its opening hours reduced.
Overall more that 350 libraries are facing closure or cutbacks and reduced opening times.
Shadow culture minister Gloria De Piero said: "Chris is an example of libraries inspiring youngsters from all backgrounds.
"The Coalition doesn't understand the damage closing them is doing."
