The always unpredictable Courtney Love had flown over to present the award, giving it up for previous winner Florence and the Machine.
Decided by the critics, this award was already known to go to Ellie Goulding, who performed at the BRIT Awards 2010 launch.
Looking ruffled - well at least her dress was - Ellie said: "This is mental."
She thanked the critics who gave her the award, her manager, her record label...
Oh, and one last thank you to her producer. How sweet.
Ellie then left with the microphone, which Peter said she could take home with her. We don't think he was being entirely serious there, but who knows?
