Rihanna scooped the gong for International Female Solo Artist at tonight’s BRIT Awards in London.
The Barbados-born beauty, who looked striking dressed in a plunging bejewelled bronze gown, ran up on stage to collect the gong off Jenson Button.
Accepting the honour, she thanked her record label as well as her fans, saying: “Thanks to all my fans who continue to support me no matter what - I love you, this is for you. And at times when I feel misunderstood my fans always remind me that it’s OK to be myself and I will never forget you for that, so thank you.”
It’s the second year in a row the star has won the title, also picking it up in 2011.
Tonight Rihanna had been up against extremely stiff competition, with Beyonce, Bjork, Feist and Lady Gaga all in the running for the coveted title of International Female Solo Artist.
But the R&B star – who has had hits with songs such as Rehab and Only Girl in the World – managed to hold her own to lift the title; no doubt a nice Brithday pressie for Rihanna, who turned 24 yesterday.
The star’s music has won her numerous awards and accolades in the past, including several Grammys and American Music Awards.
Rihanna is performing We Found Love later in tonight’s BRIT Awards ceremony.
